Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy is the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.
It is the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups for the purpose of enhancing or enabling participation in roles, habits, and routines in home, school, workplace, community, and other settings.
At AHS, occupational therapy provides services for all ages and in many forms: Individual
Sessions, group sessions, and co-sessions in collaboration with rehabilitation team based on comprehensive assessment.
Expected Benefit and Target Population:
Occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations helping people recover from injury to regain skills, and provide support to the elderly experiencing physical and cognitive changes.
AHS Occupational Therapy Team:
Headed by occupational therapist with 10 years of experience together with four occupational therapists who provide the following different services:
1- Comprehensive assessment as part of rehab team.
2-Comprehensive home and job site evaluations with adaptations recommendations.
3- Customized intervention to improve the person’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals through sessions, splint, AT& training
4- An outcome evaluation to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan if needed.
5- Training of undergraduate university students
6- Educating and empowering caregivers of persons with disabilities.
